10,000 Celebrate the Cause of Peace in a March - Pictures

From here on out, every newspaper should paint every sports rally as a bunch of drunks getting rowdy and destroying property. For that is the way, the newspapers have used less than 100 people to tell the story of 10,000. So here is the story of the MANY! Here is the perfect symbol of our current political situation: Democracy Melting

There was a huge jumotron television broadcasting on Triangle park near the cathedral, there bill board trucks driving around and there were kites flying with peace slogans.

The displays and signs were incredible. People were very creative in slogans on signs. Enjoy the pictures.

PS - The Artist for the Melting Democracy is Ligorano/Reese and I have her contact information. She was making a time lapse film that ought to be awesome.

I was part of the 10,000

I thought it was great, once I got past the sinking feeling caused by being flanked by officers in riot gear. I marched between the Immigrant Rights and the Labor contingents. I was especially impressed with the age diversity; babies in strollers and elders with canes.

Walking through the cage was chilling, not much chanting. At first I couldn’t figure out the point the signs that read something like “Victory over terrorism, Let our soldiers win!” It turns out these were Republican anti-Peace protest signs. This message was as unclear to me as a lot of what comes out of that party.

I did not see any of the violence. I didn’t even know about it until later. What I saw was the expression of a large and growing coalition who wants this war to end. I thought our message matched our actions, “Peace”.
