Grace Kelly's picture

Wow, this is a really shitty

Wow, this is a really shitty shot.

Liberals are mentally ill.

Long Line of Republican Responsibilty

With the exception of one Ventura, this is all Republican responsibility: the design, the additional weight allowed, the refusal to spend money on gusset plates or other upgrades or replacement, the choosing of contractors, the executive oversight that allowed piles of weight on the bridge during work, the lack of maintenance to prevent rusting, the choosing of contractors for maintenance, choosing the overprice overlong contractor to rebuild the bridge and ignoring the really obvious

"structurally deficient" rating of the bridge!

Yea, it is really tough when someone holds Republicans accountable for their actions.

Better stack up more namecalling, the facts have a liberal bias!

Grace Kelly?

Here I thought Grace Kelly was dead.

After reading your bio, now I'm especially sick.

Thanks

I feel that way about the way Republicans have run our government too. I will offer you Tums if we meet sometime.

Lacking

Grace Kelly said:

"With the exception of one Ventura, this is all Republican responsibility"

LOL! Did you just move here and someone told you this? Are is reality distortion one of your "gifts"? Pretty crazy stuff.

That's beside the point, really. This is severely lacking in class, lacks humor of any sort, and worst it does all the "politicizing" of the 35W tragedy that you might blame on your political opposition.

Accountability

Here is your reality based recent governors who had the maintenance responsibility on the 35W bridge and failed to provide good maintenance. They failed so badly that people died. It was their responsibility and we should hold them accountable.

Arne H. Carlson 1991 - 1999 Independent-Republican (2 terms)
James Janos(Jesse Ventura)1999 - 2003 Reform/Ind. (1 term)
Tim Pawlenty 2003 - Now Republican (2 terms)

So again polish the namecalling, because the facts are liberally biased!

Accountability!

Carlson and Ventura were DFL in all but name. Tax and spend liberals, nothing more.

And most of the goobers before that? Yep. Democrats.

And the only "facts" that are "liberally biased" is the DSM4 category of someone who'd write a post like this.

But enjoy the "accountability", "Grace". I'm going to do my bit to make sure you ghoulish little slur IS seen as the face of Minnesota liberalism.

Its sick, depraved face.

No photoshopping

That picture is simply what really happened. I did not need to distort anything, merely show the record. And I care. I want my government to be good, to maintain infrastructure, and to help our economy. What you are reacting to, is the simple unvarnished natural consequences of conservative policy - failure!

see you at the rally

any hippy freak is open season

Threats?

Are you saying "open season" as in threatening me with being shot like a deer? Gee Bill, I am using my real full name. You are not even using a full name! Here I am merely using values, words and facts.

bridge

You bastard libruls really are sick. I hope this makes you and what you are famous.

Really now

Because the Republicans are still in charge of executive branch and there are still bridges being used that are rated as worse than the bridge that fell. Exactly how many bridges have to fail before Republicans are held accountable? Exactly how much government has to fail before Republicans are held accountable?

Democrats do good government and know how to do good government.

Republicans are living in a self fulfilling prophecy of bad government.

Or is simply that you emotionally can not come to grips that the "no new taxes" policy and the Republican candidates that you voted for caused this tragedy?

Stupidity

Grace Kelly said:

"Because the Republicans are still in charge of executive branch and there are still bridges being used that are rated as worse than the bridge that fell."

Your premise sits on sand, Grace Kelly. Your ignorance on this topic is blinding brilliant. Please, keep talking.

Actually

This is the bridge that everyone thought would fall first

In May 2006, two MnDOT inspectors completed their annual review of the steel-beamed Hastings Bridge that crosses the Mississippi River between Dakota and Washington counties. It was a crucial task.

The bridge, the busiest two-lane span in Minnesota, is covered with corrosion and cracks. And it's a fracture-critical structure: If one load-carrying part fails, the entire bridge will plummet into the river.

Back in the office, the inspectors filed their report. They flagged numerous structural problems on the 57-year-old bridge: thinning steel, corroding beams, frozen bearings, damaged girders. Many of the deficiencies had been reported a decade or more ago....

Repairs to the state's worst bridges and roads are being put off year after year, sometimes for more than a decade, as the transportation agency contends with massive budget shortfalls and aging infrastructure...(Star Tribune)

One 35 bridge in St Paul that we are worried about was painted - which just makes it look better for pictures now, since there are already cracks! One in St Cloud has been closed.

Infantile Liberal Minds

I can see mnblue is filled with anger, hate, and pain... ...anger, hate, pain... ...anger, hate, pain... ...anger, hate, pain... ...anger, hate, pain... ...anger, hate, pain...

Slimy liberal tactics like this will result in another term for Coleman and Pawlenty.

Accountability

Actually we are simply speaking truth, in a clear voice. We do have hope and courage. Remember the "happy" way that we voted Bush -supporting Randy Kelly out of the mayors office and the community-everyone-at-the-table Chris Coleman into the mayors office.

However everyone reading this thread can see the chanting mindless namecalling that is all that is left of the conservative thought process.

Point your finger and three are pointing at you.

"...chanting mindless namecalling that is all that is left..."

Kelly, I agree with that description of the left!

Hope and Courage

Once I believed in the weapons of mass destruction lie that got us into the Iraq occupation. Once a majority of the voters believed the marketing lies sold by conservatives. Now just everyday ordinary people know better. Tricky word games are not persuasive. I saw the broken bridge, which is the symbol of conservative policy. You talk left/right and rest of us talk honor, truth, responsibility, accountability, justice, law, opportunity and freedom.

Conservatives know what true freedom means

Liberal/Progressive/Socialist/Communist ideology of Kelly and its ilk will destroy our freedoms.

Q: How would you describe the Dems/Libs/Left?

A: "...chanting mindless namecalling that is all that is left..." - Grace Kelly

Namecalling

Chanting mindless namecalling that is all that is left of the conservative movement!

This is sad

Talk all you want about change, but this picture is in poor taste. Want to talk about the bridge, talk about it. But people died in this place, and to show pictures of it while making a political point is disrespectfully to them and their families.

Yes, i know, you are going to say it is "disrespectfully not to talk about it because the evil Republicans let this happen."

You know, Republicans are Americans too. They love this country and just have a different view on how it should be run. All your posts where you say that we Democrats are the "good guys" just means you are calling them the bad guys and evil. Want to talk about name calling, there it is.

I think you have proven yourself to be disrespectfully here. And thats my opinion. Go ahead and tell me I am wrong and sit atop your high horse looking down your nose at us other Democrats who think you are extremist in your views, and would rather try and work with our Republicans friends then put them down.

I am a Democrat. I have lived in this state for all my life, over 40 years. I voted for Wellstone. I live in Minneapolis, the heart of liberalism. But I find the use of this picture wrong, disturbing, and infantile. And since the "author" of this post is not going to do it, I would like to apologize to the families of those lost on this bridge, in the place where this picture was taken, for its use in a political manner. I am outraged when Norm Coleman did it, and I am outraged now that this person is doing it. Wrong is wrong.

Shame on you.

Accountability

If someone kills someone even accidentally with a car, we talk about it, we even prosecute them! Shame on you for letting government be less responsible than a private person has to be!

So you are claiming that the families and victims do not want the public to talk about it and that they do not want public justice. Well a quick look on google yields this:

Progressive Contractors Inc., the construction company whose crews were resurfacing the Interstate 35W bridge when it fell, is preparing a possible lawsuit against the state for failing to keep its workers safe...

"They're required to provide you with a safe place to work, and if the bridge was defectively designed and defectively maintained, we could have a breach of contract against the state," Hart said...

Among the 145 people injured were at least two other construction workers whose attorneys have filed notices of potential lawsuits against the state...

"There were all sorts of people that suffered losses in addition to the victims that were actually on that bridge," he said. "Progressive suffered losses, people nearby had their businesses disrupted — there's a lot of people that will be filing claims here." (StarTribune)

So the companies of the victims, the families of the victims and the victims are all asking very publically for justice and accountability!

Maybe read what I write next time before you reply

I wrote:

I said nothing about not talking about it. I said using the picture was in poor taste. So shame on me? No. Shame on you.

Shame on you for trying to prove your point by attacking me and lying about what I said when you have no leg to stand on. This stinks of the Bush administration, and frankly, I hate to be making that comparison on another democrat. But THAT is the truth.

You said:

"So you are claiming that the families and victims do not want the public to talk about it and that they do not want public justice. Well a quick look on google yields this."

Where do I say not to talk about it? I don't.

You know, you have a lot of anger. And if you are going to pretend to talk with authority and knowledge, be prepared for folks to question what you have written. And as I tell my daughter, it is ok yo admit you are wrong when you are wrong. Getting angry and continuing to defend a position that is not right, is not the way to go

The picture is in bad taste. People died in this place. I stand by what I wrote, and not what you lied about me writing. You are still in the wrong, not more then ever for putting words in my mouth that I directly contradict in my earlier post.

Now, go ahead and attack me again and call me names and spin spin spin.

Acoountability

I have a close friend whose sister died on 9/11, she wants the truth about 9/11 known. In fact she has dedicated most of her spare time to making that happen.

In this very blog, you have a mom of soldier who died in Iraq, she speaks quite clearly on the truth being put out there.

And if any of my loved ones are harmed in any way, I would have everyone speak out. So yes you are the one should be ashamed, ashamed for not speaking out. (read my bio) For that is the first step in realizing the need for change. For those who messed up have NOT changed. They continue to make the same decisions, risking the same consequences again.

All that's necessary for the forces of evil to win in the world is for enough good men to do nothing.”

Edmund Burke quotes (British Statesman and Philosopher, 1729-1797)

And for so long, good people have stood aside. For so long, we have not spoken up.

Humor is effective, humor is what keeps us sane in the long incredible years of bad government. And I know personally, the the family of victims use that too.

So here is your call to action. Here is your call to no longer stand aside, no longer let people continue bad policy.

Stand up, speak out, be active!

Chidined by Childishness

If we are going to blame someone then lets look at who designed the bridge and who built the bridge. Unfortunately those people are long gone from the current blame the Republicans crowd. Childish chiding from left wing zealots isn't what anyone needs and you should be put in "Time Out" for acting like a whining child.

Accountability

If you had a car where you never maintained the brakes and you drove that car knowing those brakes were "structurally deficient". until you killed someone - you know that you would be held responsible in court. No way, could you claim that the brake problem was a design problem!

We even have bridge pictures now of gusset plates buckling! This Republican administration should be held as accountable as a private person would be.

Accountability

Highlight pink lines were added by me to this ABC photo to show the bending of the gusset plate before the 35W bridge fell.

Old photos of the Interstate 35W bridge show two steel connecting plates were visibly bent as early as 2003 — four years before the span collapsed into the Mississippi River, killing 13 people.

Minnesota Department of Transportation officials declined to say when the state first knew about the bending in the pieces of steel, called gusset plates.

Two photos, part of a report issued earlier this month by the National Transportation Safety Board, reveal slight bends in gusset plates that hold beams together at two separate connecting points. The plates are in areas believed to be among the first points of failure when the span collapsed.

The NTSB's Office of Highway Safety confirmed that the bowing is part of the investigation into why the bridge collapsed Aug. 1, the Star Tribune newspaper reported Sunday. (ABC News)

Add to a buckling bridge, a Republican administration mismanaged project:

But earlier this week, the board said the bridge was stressed after workers had put 99 tons of sand on the roadway directly over two of the bridge’s weakest points. Stress at one of the two weakest points was 83 percent more than the bridge could have handled, according to an interim report released earlier by the Federal Highway Administration.(New York Time)

Republican Governor Pawlenty vetoed efforts to improve transportation both before and after this tragedy. The Democratic Minnesota congress removed Lt. Gov. Carol Molnau from her post as transportation commissioner last month after years of concern about the department’s performance. The Minnesota people approved an amendment to the state constitution that locks the state government into spending more money on roads and public transit by restoring all money collected from the sales tax on motor vehicles to transportation. The Minnesota house and senate with great courage and great leadership by the Democrats and the support a few brave responsible Republican legislators passed a significant transportation bill. Those few brave responsible Republican legislators were chastised by the Republican party.

Accountability, We the people of Minnesota have the right to demand accountability of our state government and we will!

Infantile Liberal Minds

...chanting mindless namecalling that is all that is Left - Grace Kelly

Your hate, anger, bitterness, and personal attacks show your true colors. You altered the picture by placing an April 1st sign... that shows your true colors... hate, anger, bitterness, pain... nasty partisan left wing moonbat ideology does not become you.

Ask not how blatantly you can lie about Republicans; ask how you can work together for the benefit of ALL Minnesotans!

Context

If you going to quote out of context, why don't you just take individual words and stick them together, or even just use individual letters, then it will be really easy. (primary emotion=humor)

Infantile Liberals are also hypocrites

You lost the moral high ground to complain about context the minute you altered the picture in an attempt to politicize this tragedy by changing the context of the actual photo.

You've been caught!

It has already been shown that your MO is to refuse to apologize when you are wrong.

You've been caught again!!

Altered the picture? What -

Altered the picture? What - by adding a caption? There are many pictures of the fallen bridge to confirm the accuracy of image. Or what by adding lines to the other one? You can check that original online. What are you talking about?

Infantile Liberals are also hypocrites

Yes, you altered it!

Are you denying that you added something to the bridge collapse photo to change the context?

You've been caught!!!

Your disregard for the lost lives is sickening. A decent human being would apologize. Will you apologize? Have you ever acted contrite?

Accountability

Adding lines is like holding up a ruler on a picture.

Infantile Liberals can't apologize when they are wrong

What kind of foolish joke are you?

What lines do you see?
Submitted by Grace Kelly on April 1, 2008 - 12:35am

You altered it.
I am right and you are wrong.

You have no decency.

You really are dense!

You blame Pawlenty for every descision made at the DOT for the past 40 years?

Please keep up your spirited defense of your tasteless photo as you are doing more to discredit the "progressive" movement than the Republicans could ever dream of doing.

Accountability

I hold Republican Governor Pawlenty accountable for every Minnesota executive decision made since he came into office in 2003 - 2003 the same year of the pictures of the documentably buckling gusset plates.

What kind of Idiot...

Only a complete idiot would blame Pawlenty for a 40 year old design flaw.

Kelly, keep digging that hole.

Keep up your "progressive" "chanting mindless namecalling" tactics.

Keep up your raving mad fight.

Keep up your complete disregard for the lives lost in the bridge collapse.

You are a rock for the "progressive liberal" movement...

40 years?

By your logic every car, I have ever owned has died from a fatal design flaw!

You really are dense!

NTSB logic
Design Flaw.

You have no concept of logic.

Why must you buy so many cars, kelly, are you trying to destroy mother earth?
