Minnesota Senate Recount Day 5
I'm off to the Wild game to see Alexander Ovechkin's Washington Capitols. Maybe the Wild can find a way to score. It might be as exciting as the recount. Ahem.
I'll post the numbers once I get home, but Jeck Fecke's analysis at Blog of the Moderate Left cuts to the quick of where this race is headed -- The courts.
Updated
Norm leads by 172. We're on pace for ... sweet Jebus ... possibly 5,000 challenges? We're nearly at 100 challenges per percentage point.
| MN-SEN race recount | ||
|---|---|---|
| Updated every evening at 8pm | ||
| Norm Coleman | 908063 | 41.95% |
| Al Franken | 889891 | 41.11% |
| Other | 363852 | 16.81% |
| Challenged Franken ballots | 1400 | 0.06% |
| Challenged Coleman ballots | 1401 | 0.06% |
This is 74.18% of votes counted out of 2,885,502 votes cast on November 4th. The gonkulations follow...
- 908 challenges today.
- 8.53% more of the recount completed today.
- 908 divided by 8.53 = 106 challenges per percentage point.
- 25.82% remaining X 106 = 2737 challenges.
- 2801 + 2737 = 5,000+ !!!

Senate will pick
Seriously, I swear that Jeff Fecke kid was my brother's best bud, once. I think I e-mailed him about that once and he didn't reply... must have thought it was a weird question.
It was Fecke, Cybyske, and Kurtz (the announcer's kid). The three of them were such cuties.
Thanks for posting the recount numbers. I think the Senate will have to pick.
Oh, and the good old days
Gordie Howe, Daryl...or was it Paul? Shmyr, Brotens, Brad Maxwell... now those are hockey names.
Under what scenario and why would Senate decide?
Don't know/
Thanks,
Alec
Justice will only exist where those not affected by injustice are filled with the same amount of indignation as those offended.
States must have some time limit for certifying their results
The only reason Minnesota wouldn't meet that deadline is because of legal challenges from one campaign or another.
Senate decides
Hi, here's info on the
Senate having the last word (US Constitution).
Once all appeals are exhausted, either party can ask that the information be forwarded to the presiding Senate officer.
From there, it's up to the Senate to decide how to proceed.
"Ultimately the Constitution gives the Senate the sole power to determine the qualifications of its members," Ritchie said. "In the end, there is no appeal if the Senate makes the decision."
It isn't clear to me, either. Like Minnesota_Liberal says, there must be a deadline and that deadline isn't met. Perhaps if Franken and Coleman keep challenging each other in court... and there is enough validitiy to both arguments so either one could be the voter's choice...
The way things have been going, I think it'll be the Senate which either has to call for another election or will name the Senator.
I'm befuddled
Holly, who are the people you mentioned in your first two comments? I don't know who they are. Thanks.
Maryellen, here's the scoop
Hi Maryellen! I liked your health care post.
First names/ comment: Jeff Fecke was mentioned by the Big E. The other names are Scot Cybyske and Paul? Kurtz. Scot and Paul may have been best buds with Jeff Fecke when they were small kids. If Jeff stopped by to read the comment it would be fun to see if Jeff is, indeed, that little kid from my old neighborhood. (Side note: Wordpress can be set to notify bloggers of any link to their blog, I'm not sure if Jeff has Wordpress or is set to receive incoming link notification...)
Second name/ comment: Big E said he was going to a hockey game. I mentioned some of my hockey heros. I'm not a Wild fan since I was a North Star fan and still can't come to grips with a new team.
I'd better explain myself the first time instead of just flying by and commenting. Sorry! :-)
